Why Are Blueberries Good For You?

by Philip

Blueberries pack an almost unbelievable amount of vitamins and minerals in each berry, and yet maintain a low calorie count. They are full of antioxidants, nutrients that remove free radicals from the body and keep you looking and feeling young. They help keep the eyes healthy and working well through your entire life. They keep you thinking clearly, and have been shown to protect against many dangerous types of cancer. All in all, there’s simply no reason to avoid blueberries.

On the most basic level, blueberries are full of vitamins and minerals, to the point that they almost look like a packaged vitamin themselves. One cup of blueberries has 30% of the suggested daily intake of Vitamin C, 20% of manganese, and 15% of your daily fiber (something many American diets lack). It does this while only packing about 80 calories total. This is practically unheard of in food, even the healthiest food on the market, and is a real reason why blueberries often make the list of ‘superfoods’.

why are blueberries good for youOne of the bigger buzzwords in American diets today is antioxidants. They nutrients clear the body of free radicals, which make us look and feel older. Yikes! Blueberries are literally one of the best sources of antioxidants on the market. And even though antioxidant is a buzzword, it’s an important one. Free radicals have been shown to cause damage in skin, which makes us look older, but they damage everything else too, especially the eyes and the gastrointestinal organs.

Which has been proven by the fact that blueberries keep peoples’ eyes working better for longer, and improves the performance of our gastrointestinal systems too. The berries reduce the risks of many major cancers as well, including colon cancer and ovarian cancer.

Is there need for any more proof than this? Blueberries should absolutely be a part of anyone’s diet. They have so many benefits that they almost sound made up on paper, and have virtually no downsides at all – they hardly even have any calories! Add blueberries to your diet as soon as you can – your long term health will thank you for it.
