Wide Varieties of Jewellery Boxes

by Philip

Shopping for jewellery boxes has never been this easy – and hard. There is an incredible collection available today, and so you have no excuse for finding one unique to you. Here are 4 of the more common styles online and in specialty stores today.

Wooden Jewellery Boxes
The wooden jewellery box is usually worked into a traditional design, a rectangular box that either has multiple drawers built into it, or has just a single compartment that you would store everything in. The strength of wood is that you can design it in practically any style. Many of the boxes on sale today have hand carved designs in the side, or are handpainted for a personalized look. Then there’s the fact that you have dozens of kinds of wood to choose from, and you’re left with almost endless variations just in this one category. For something simple, you also have the standard rectangular shape with few frills on the outside. These are usually cheaper too, in case money is especially tight.

Antique Jewellery Boxes
There are very similar to the wooden jewellery boxes I just described, but they tend to be much more ornate. Woodwork was not as expensive back then as it is today, and so jewellery boxes that are handpainted with elaborate designs, or covered in delicate bronzework were common and relatively cheap. If you search online you may even find jewellery armoires, with dozens of drawers, mirrors, and carefully carved and designed parts.

Childrens Jewellery Boxes
Boxes that are designed for kids come in main kinds. One is the very girly style, usually covered in a lot of pink and red colors, often shaped into a heart shape, and made in plastic. As you can probably imagine, these are more like storage boxes for toy jewellery, in the sense that you probably wouldn’t want to keep expensive pieces in it. The other kind is a little more inspired by adult boxes, they’re the traditional rectangle shape, but again, the insides are almost always hard plastic and are not that great for storing elaborate jewellery in.

If the girl you are buying for has an extensive jewellery collection, you may want to simply consider a standard jewellery box. Jewellery gift boxes with the leather interior, or something similarly soft, will be more appropriate in storing their jewellery.

In the end, the better you know yourself, or the person you’re buying for, the more you can match up their personality with the box. Jewellery boxes are more than generic storage cubes – they’re very personal, and should be treated as such.
