The Usefulness of Hat Boxes

by Philip

Hat boxes have long been known as decorative storage, but they are very useful as well. They come in a variety of sizes and styles, with decorative fabrics and materials that will allow them to match any room in the house. They serve as an excellent focal point to a room, and also can be used as storage. They hold and protect hats of course, and are also easily purchased at department stores and homegood stores for a wide range of prices, depending on their quality.

They are often made of cardboard due to its lightness and low cost, but higher quality decorative hat boxes can be crafted from high density plastic as well, giving it added strength without adding much weight. These boxes are easy to shape, so that they aren’t a typical box shape. I have seen round hat boxes that look much cooler than a square box shape, or adorned with floral designs and in very dramatic colors. These kinds of designs can add to the decoration of a room, while serving as storage at the same time.

Hat boxes with lids are the most common kinds produced today, though there are some that come in two separate pieces that hold together, eliminating the hinges that a lid makes. Either kind will protect your hat, or store just about anything else you want to keep in it. Lately there’s been a growing interest in the boxes, so wholesale hat boxes are springing up across the internet. This gives you the added benefit of lowering the overall price. A basic hat box is just not that expensive to purchase, especially today.

It’s different if you want an antique hat box of course. These are much more ornate than a standard modern box but cost a lot more. In these cases you may want to check websites like eBay for good deals, or check out thrift stores or garage sales in your area. By keeping your eye on different possibilities you will probably be able to find something available eventually, and save a lot of money in the process.

Hat boxes are used to protect hats from damage. Not only will it be safe-guarded from physical damage but it will also be protected from direct sunlight that could cause a hat’s color to fade. Boxes themselves will suffer sun damage over time too, so if you’re not displaying them I would recommend trying to keep them somewhere that is cool and dry, which will also protect them from mold.

Hat boxes are useful for storage and also for decorating. If you’re looking for something unique to show when people come over, or for storage of hats and almost anything else, hat boxes are a great alternative.
